APV is the manufacturer of Plate Type Heat Exchanger. The very first time they discovered the late Type Heat Exchanger was in 1923. From that period onwards the plate type heat exchanger came in the world and thus was later on made by other companies as well.

Some of the things which are unique to APV:

  • The inventor of the Plate Type Heat Exchanger
  • Producing PHE up to 43 MW which is the world’s largest
  • The only company in the world from where you can buy gasket type heat exchangers

Heat Exchangers can fall under 3 major categories:

  • Gasketed type
  • Semi Welded type
  • Fully Welded type

Gasketed type Heat Exchangers are the highest number of plate type heat exchanger produced in the world. These are used for applications where the temperature is under 200 Deg Cand Pressure is up to 25 bar. This covers the bulk of the heat exchanger market.

  • Seal water for steam turbines
  • Turbine lubricating oils
  • High-quality water used in stator cooling passages
  • Gland sealing oils
  • Transformer oils
  • Spent fuel element pond water
  • Neutron shield
  • Energy stand by
  • Closed-loop cooling using sea, river or cooling towers
  • Pressure vessel cooling

Semi Welded Type is of laser-welded plate pairs for refrigerant and chemical processing. These pairs are particularly suitable for evaporation and condensing of refrigerants such as ammonia, as well as chemical and general process duties involving aggressive liquids that would attack conventional gaskets.

  • Max. temperature: Up to 392° F / 200° C
  • Min. temperature: Down to -36.4° F / -38° C
  • Max design pressure: 435 PSIG / 30 bar
  • High thermal efficiency
  • Strong mechanical construction
  • Allow handling of aggressive media
  • Added security against leakage
  • Flexibility to be expanded or reduced in size
  • A small footprint and a low profile
  • Patented Tri-Flash system

The fully welded PLATE HEAT EXCHANGER ensures that different media are safely kept separate- even when higher pressures and temperatures are applied. This means that there is a wider range of possible applications than where the gasketed plate heat exchangers can be applied.

Its compact design allows a heating surface density of 250 m²/m³. The special construction of the flow pattern ensures that the heat transfer for gases as well as for liquids is extremely enhanced.

  • Operational temperature range between -328°F and 1652°F ( -200°C and 900°C )
  • Pressure range between vacuum and 871 psig/60 bar
  • Fully welded construction (no gaskets)
  • A broad range of construction configurations
  • Compact design allows the installation of up to 6000 m3 heating surface per unit
  • Economic use of materials and low weight
  • Exchange surfaces with plate thickness between 0.5 and 1.0 mm
  • Available in a variety of high-grade alloys
  • Very efficient heat transfer even at low-pressure drop
  • Self-cleaning effect by means of strong turbulence, no dead spots in the flow
  • Works as gas or liquid exchanger, condenser or evaporator
  • Low filling charge and a short length of stay protects the product
  • Possible to achieve very accurate temperature approaches
